Hi jmm6,
It sort of depends, if your cell phone is plugged in to a charger (and what type) or not.
Possible Charger Problems:If your cell phone is plugged into a wall charger it will slowly get warm to hot.
If the cell phone is on a travel charger (i.e. car charger) it will get warm-to-hot much faster - this is normal. Check with the merchant you bought it from to make sure it has the stop-gap chip, if it an OEM charger you won't have this problem as they are manufactured with the highest ISO standards (hmm... just like all our products

)
Possible Battery Problems:Batteries by their very nature don't last forever because they cause electricity/energy by chemical reactions. These same chemical reaction cause heat - and a lot of it! If you are on cell phone for an hour it is perfectly normal for your phone to get hot. However, if the cell phone is burning your fingers go to your wireless dealer ASAP to have them test the battery. If it's not the battery then see below.
Phone Problems/Counterfeit:This scenario is the worst of them all. Cell phone counterfeits are a BIG problem and can account for a good chunk of the 100 billion counterfeit market. You can easily tell if your cell phone is a counterfeit if you go to the manufacturer's website and search your serial number (usually found underneath the battery, or check manual). If it doesn't show up in the results AND you bought it from the wireless dealer contact your cell phone provider first then contact
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Whatever you do if you think the problem is serious DON'T WAIT:
